Tam

She turned, coat snapping in the wind like the sail of a departing ship, and walked the last stretch toward the carved arch and the darkness it contained. Water misted like a curtain, blurring her silhouette as she passed the threshold that would not let him pass..

Tam stood there long after she was gone, watching the place where her shadow vanished into legend. Because he was sure he had truly met a legend of yesteryear.

His fingers curled around the pearl in his pocket, and with a small smile, he turned back toward Kael-Vora and the skyborne home waiting for him in the harbor.

The Scarlet Sphynx was calling.

Soon there would be wind in her sails once more.

You can really feel Tam’s presence and the weight of the moment as she disappears into the mist, and the way he holds the pearl makes it feel like there’s a bigger story behind it. The last lines about the Scarlet Sphynx give such a sense of anticipation, I immediately wanted to keep reading

I really loved how Wind in the Sails captures the rhythm of life at sea your description of the crew’s camaraderie and the changing winds made the whole journey feel alive! It got me wondering, what inspired you to focus so much on the subtleties of the ship’s atmosphere and how it affects the characters’ moods?

I really loved the way you described Kael-Vora appearing with Rhendak’s Rise and that massive waterfall sending rainbow-laced mist into the sky it made the whole harbor scene feel incredibly vivid and alive. The little crew moments and dialogue also gave the ship a lot of personality. I’m curious though, does Elmira returning to this place change how the crew sees her once they realize what it means to her?
