WASC21 Worldbuilding Pledge Document

My Summer Camp 2021 Worldbuilding Pledge Document

World Anvil Summer camp is upon us, and despite my lifes best efforts, I will find time to compete in it. And while trying to steamroll and streamline everything, I will move through the preparations and prompts as quickly, and hopefully, efficiently as possible.

Achieving Goals

Which project are your worldbuilding efforts tied to?

Currently, there is a severe disconnect between what I wrote in the Meta when starting in this project, and what I actually created. This is something I want to remedy through WASC21.

It will provide a new perspective on how a society roughly equivalent to our history in between 1890 and 1910 that has access to magic will look and feel like.

Yeah, this is what we are working on.

Island Inquest awaits

What world are you working on?

There is really no question that I will work on Island Inquest. Albeit there are other worlds I could work on like Urlurra, I want to focus on my personal project.

Focussing your efforts will help you get the max out of the challenge.

Janet and Dimi know what they are doing, it is wise to listen to their counsel.

See Brossal, see the World!

Which area of the world(s) are you working on?

Island Inquest in its full glory is still probably smaller than most territories people decide to work on, with three distinct kingdoms in a relative tight group. However, I find it prudent to flesh out the southern regions and especially one of the more industrious (and malicious) protagonists of this world's history.

Diamond or Bust

How much are you aiming to complete?

If there are 31 Prompts to complete, I will complete 31 prompts, or despair trying.

Diamond Or Die!

The goal, as just mentioned, is 31 Prompts, but for me personally, is about managing my expectations for Quality and Completeness.

At average, my articles are between one- and two-thousand words long. This would mean that in a month, I would write 46,500 words, doubling my current word count and then some.

I suspect that this will not work out well for me.

Can we maybe find something that is a bit easier to achieve with a life-work-balance almost tipping over the scale towards the latter?

I think we can: The minimum word count for each prompt is 300 words. Adding 9300 words to my current world is something I could achieve in about 10 articles.

I am committing myself to writing 31 (thirty-one) prompts with at least 300 (three-hundred) words each until 31st June 2021

There you have it.

24 hours and a Night

When will you write?

Alright, so, I write on average with 74 words per minute, which means that, mathematically speaking, I should be done each day with my assignment within 5 minutes. EASILY.

Now, it's nothing new that it does not work like that. With formatting, typography, grammar, translations, and all the other stuff taking time, I will invest two writing sprints of 30 minutes each day.

If I'm done within the first sprint, I will not do a second one. This will provide some motivation to be efficient.

I will also take 15 minutes out of my day to update this pledge document with current numbers a manage some social media related to WASC21.

Friends in all places

Who is your support network?

As I am now a member of the Anvilite Streamer Corps, I would hope that I could make use of that connection.

However, that would require streaming myself working on content. One hard requirement being streaming yourself. No, I don't think that will work out.

Which leaves my Twitter account, maybe kofi, friends and family, of course. And, we should not forget sliding links into various Discord channels for feedback, comments, and likes.

Would be great if I can also add some interactivity to the whole process. Maybe some custom community roles and people joining the discord.

Wrap-up

Alright, that will have to do it. Today is the first day of summer camp and the prompts have been revealed.

All WASC21 articles will be tracked with a tag of the same name, this should make it easier to find for you :)

So I better get to it, now, I need to close this with some music:

Alright, that's better! Happy Writing!
