{"name":"Savant","overview":"[h1]The Savant[\/h1]\r\nThe slender elf cleaned her glasses with the\r\ncorner of her cloak as the dust settled around her.\r\nHer benefactor had paid her a large sum to locate this forgotten place, and after weeks of pouring over\r\nancient maps, she had pieced together the location of\r\nthe temple. Now, she had a decision to make. If she\r\nreported the location of the temple to her benefactor,\r\nit would be ruthlessly stripped of valuables. But, if she\r\nkept the location hidden, she could preserve the long\r\nforgotten knowledge contained within. For to a savant,\r\nknowledge is more precious than any sum of gold.\r\nThe aging human warrior silently assessed the soldiers\r\nunder his command. They were exhausted and almost out\r\nof supplies. It was the tenth day of the siege, and the graying\r\nwarrior knew that no reinforcements were coming to their\r\nrescue. He was too old to be of much use in battle, but if his\r\nsoldiers followed his orders without hesitation, they might\r\nhave a chance of survival. He stood up, and for what could be\r\nthe last time, he tightened his belt and drew his sword.\r\nA young dwarf bent over his unconscious comrade in the\r\nmidst of battle, his hands shook as he examined his brother's\r\nwounds. His clan had spent a small fortune sending him to\r\nstudy at the finest university in the land. All the hours spent in\r\nlectures and libraries, all for this moment. He thought back to\r\nhis lessons and began to dress his brother's wounds.\r\n[h1]Magnificent Minds[\/h1]\r\nThere are many wonderfully intelligent people in the world,\r\nbut few are true savants. Born with the innate desire to learn\r\nanything they can, and the potential for genius-level intellect,\r\nsavants spend their lives learning anything that those around\r\nthem are willing to teach. Often recognizable at an early age,\r\na savant's unquenchable hunger for knowledge draws them\r\nto the great libraries, universities, and other places of higher\r\nlearning. They are willing to go to any lengths to unlock the\r\nsecrets of the world, often turning to lives of adventure. For\r\na savant, no price is too steep for the promise of discovery.\r\n[h1]Intense Focus[\/h1]\r\nSavants are hyper-focused on their chosen area of study and\r\noften become obsessed with learning all they can about their\r\nspecialty. In their quest for discovery, savants are willing to\r\nset aside any conviction, political, religious, or otherwise, to\r\nacquire the information they seek. To them, their desire for\r\nknowledge is more important than loyalty to any ideology.\r\nOften at great cost, savants will continue researching until\r\nthey have made an indelible mark on their area of study.\r\n\r\n\r\n[h1]Creating a Savant[\/h1]\r\nWhen creating a savant, consider their upbringing and level\r\nof formal education. Were they the star pupil of the finest\r\nuniversity in the land, or did they come from poverty, fighting\r\nfor any scrap of knowledge they could get their hands on?\r\nAlso, consider why your savant relies only on their intellect,\r\nrather than the arcane or the patronage of a higher power.\r\nFinally, why did they become an adventurer rather than an\r\nacademic? Have they advanced beyond study and now look\r\nforward to the endless discoveries of a life of adventure?","hitdice":"d8","hitpointsfirstlevel":"8+Constitution Modifier","hitpointsathigherlevels":"5 (1d8) +Constitution modifier","armorproficiencies":"Light Armor","weaponproficiences":"Simple weapons, hand crossbow, shortswords, scimitars, shortswords, rapiers and whips","tools":"set of Artisan's Tools of your choice.","savingthrows":"Intelligence, Wisdom","skills":"Choose two from History, Insight, Investigation, Medicine, Nature, Perception, Persuasion and Religion","equipment":"You start with the following equipment, in addition to the\r\nequipment granted by your background:\r\n[ul]\r\n[li]Any two simple weapons of your choice or a rapier[\/li]\r\n[li]A light crossbow and 20 bolts or two daggers[\/li]\r\n[li]One set of Artisan's Tools of your choice.[\/li]\r\n[li]Leather armor and a Scholar's Pack.[\/li]\r\n[\/ul]\r\n\r\nAlternately if your group uses the starting wealth rule to\r\npurchase your equipment, a savant starts with 5d4 x 10 gp.\r\n","spellcasting":"","features":"[h1]Adroit Analysis[\/h1]\r\nStarting at 1st level, you can quickly analyse a foe's strengths\r\nand weaknesses. As a bonus action, you can Mark a creature\r\nyou can see within 60 feet, gaining the following benefits for\r\n1 minute or until you Mark another creature:\r\n[ul]\r\n[li]You can use Intelligence, in place of Strength or Dexterity, for your attack and damage rolls against that creature.[\/li]\r\n[li]If you hit the creature with an attack, or observe it for 1 minute, you learn one of the following characteristics of your choice: its Armour Class, movement speed, one ability score, its maximum hit points, or its creature type.[\/li]\r\n[li]You have advantage on any Intelligence or Wisdom ability checks you make to analyse the creature.[\/li]\r\n[\/ul]\r\nYou can also use a bonus action to make an ability check\r\nusing any Intelligence or Wisdom skill proficiency you have.\r\n[h1]Perfect Recall[\/h1]\r\nYou can recall picture-perfect details from things you commit\r\nto memory. Starting at 1st level, if you spend at least 1 minute\r\nobserving something, you can recall any information about it,\r\nat any point in the future, without requiring an ability check.\r\nExamples of this may include books that you have read, a\r\npath that you have travelled, or a map that you have studied.\r\n[h1]Unarmoured Defence[\/h1]\r\nYour observant way of fighting allows you to anticipate and\r\ndodge attacks. Starting at 1st level, when you are not wearing\r\nany armour or wielding a shield, your Armour Class is equal to\r\n10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Intelligence modifier.\r\n[h1]Intellect Dice[\/h1]\r\nAt 2nd level, you gain a pool of Intellect Dice which represent\r\nyour mental stamina. Whenever you make an ability check or\r\nsaving throw that uses Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma,\r\nyou can expend one of these Dice and add it to your roll. You\r\ncan do so after you roll, but before you know if you succeed\r\nor fail. You have a total number of Intellect Dice equal to your\r\nIntelligence modifier + your Wisdom modifier, and you regain\r\nall expended Dice when you finish a short or long rest.\r\nYour Intellect Dice begin as d4s, and increase in size as\r\nyou gain levels in this class, as indicated in the Savant table.\r\n[h1]Potent Observation[\/h1]\r\nStarting at 2nd level, you can highlight your foe's weak points.\r\nAs a reaction when a creature you can see hits the target of\r\nAdroit Analysis with an attack, you can increase the attack's\r\ndamage by an amount equal to a roll of your Intellect Die.\r\nWhen you reach 5th level, any attack that you make against\r\nthe target of your Adroit Analysis can trigger this reaction.\r\nBeginning at 11th level, this reaction increases the damage\r\nof the triggering attack by two rolls of your Intellect Die.\r\n[h1]Academic Discipline[\/h1]\r\nAt 3rd level, choose your Academic Discipline: Archaeologist,\r\nInvestigator, Naturalist, Physician, or Tactician, each of which\r\nis detailed at the end of this class. Your Discipline grants you\r\nfeatures at 3rd level, and again at 6th, 13th, and 17th level.\r\n[h1]Ability Score Improvement[\/h1]\r\nWhen you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th, and\r\n19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice\r\nby 2, or two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you\r\ncan't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.\r\n[h1]Accelerated Reflexes[\/h1]\r\nThe speed at which you react to stimuli is incredible. Starting\r\nat 5th level, so long as you are not surprised, you add your\r\nIntelligence modifier (minimum of +1) to your initiative rolls.\r\nYou also gain one additional reaction you can take each\r\nround. A single effect can only trigger one of your reactions.\r\nWhen you reach 17th level, your reflexes increase again,\r\nallowing you another reaction per round (for a total of 3).\r\n[h1]Expert Student[\/h1]\r\nYour ability to learn and retain new abilities and languages is\r\nbeyond compare. Beginning at 5th level, each time you finish\r\na long rest, you can choose to learn one additional language,\r\nor gain proficiency in one tool, skill, or weapon of your choice,\r\nas long as there is an example for you to learn from (such as\r\na willing teacher with that proficiency, a manual, or a book in\r\na different language). You can only learn one new proficiency\r\nor language from this feature per long rest.\r\nYou can use this feature to learn a total number of extra\r\nproficiencies and languages equal to your proficiency bonus.\r\nIf you learn another language or proficiency while you are at\r\nyour maximum, you must choose one language or proficiency\r\nyou gained through this feature forget, as your mind can only\r\nremember so many hastily learned skills and abilities at once.\r\nWhen you replace a language or proficiency you immediately\r\nlose any skill or knowledge of it.\r\nWhen you reach 10th level in this class, you can learn a\r\nlanguage or proficiency at the end of each short or long rest.\r\n[h1]Keen Awareness[\/h1]\r\nYou can react to danger at a moment's notice. Starting at 7th\r\nlevel, you cannot be surprised unless you are incapacitated.\r\nIn addition, when you roll initiative, you can use Adroit\r\nAnalysis to Mark a creature you can see within 60 feet.\r\n[h1]Expert Educator[\/h1]\r\nStarting at 9th level, your ability to educate others is peerless.\r\nDuring a long rest, you choose a number of creatures that\r\ncan hear you equal to your Intelligence modifier, and one tool,\r\nskill, or weapon proficiency, or one language you know. The\r\ncreatures gain that proficiency or learn to understand and\r\nspeak that language until the end of your next long rest\r\n[h1]Flawless Observation[\/h1]\r\nStarting at 11th level, you can use Potent Observation when a\r\ncreature hits any creature you can see with a weapon or spell\r\nattack, even if it's not not the target of Adroit Analysis.\r\nMoreover, when you use Potent Observation to increase\r\nthe damage against a creature marked by Adroit Analysis you\r\nadd your Intelligence modifier to the damage of the attack.\r\n[h1]Unyielding Will[\/h1]\r\nStarting at 14th level, when you fail a saving throw to resist\r\nbeing charmed, frightened, or stunned, you can expend an\r\nIntellect Die to automatically succeed instead.\r\nAdditionally, when you roll initiative with no Intellect Dice\r\nremaining, you instantly regain one expended Intellect Die.\r\n[h1]Profound Insight[\/h1]\r\nYou can predict attacks before they come to pass. Starting at\r\n18th level, any creature marked by your Adroit Analysis has\r\ndisadvantage on attack rolls they make against you, and you\r\nhave advantage on any saving throw they force you to make.\r\n[h1]Undisputed Genius[\/h1]\r\nUpon reaching 20th level, you realize the true genius-level\r\npotential of your mind. Your Intelligence and Wisdom scores\r\nincrease by 4. Your maximum for those scores is now 24.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n","subclasses":"[ol]\r\n[li]Archeologist[\/li]\r\n[li]Naturalist[\/li]\r\n[li]Philosopher[\/li]\r\n[li][blocklink:627092][\/li]\r\n[li]Seeker[\/li]\r\n[li]Tactician[\/li]\r\n[\/ol]\r\n","tabledata":"Level| Proficiency Bonus|Features | Intellect Die\r\n1st| +2| Adroit Analysis, Unarmoured Defence, Perfect Recall | -\r\n2nd| +2 | Intellect Dice, Potent Observation | d4\r\n3rd| +2 | Academic Discipline | d4\r\n4th| +2| Ability Score Improvement | d4\r\n5th| +3 |Expert Student, Accelerated Reflexes (2) | d6\r\n6th| +3| Academic Discipline Feature | d6\r\n7th| +3| Keen Awareness | d6\r\n8th| +3| Ability Score Improvement | d6\r\n9th| +4 |Expert educator | d6\r\n10th| +4 |- | d6\r\n11th| +4 |Flawless Observation, Potent Observation (2d10)  | d8\r\n12th| +4 |Ability Score Improvement  | d8\r\n13th| +5 |Academic Discipline Feature | d8\r\n14th| +5 |Unyielding Will | d8\r\n15th| +5 | -  | d10\r\n16th| +5 |Ability Score Improvement | d10\r\n17th| +6 |Academic Discipline Feature, Accelerated Reflexes (3) | d10\r\n18th| +6 |Profound Insight | d10\r\n19th| +6 |Ability Score Improvement | d10\r\n20th| +6 |Undisputed Genius | d12","tags":"Intelligence, Homebrew, Versitile, Laserllama Homebrew","isShared":"on","templateId":"25","blockId":"446080","world":""}
