A Consolation from Nature

The riven rock, though broken seeming,

Stands as strong, it's surface gleaming,

As did it when man last beheld

The rock entire, unparalled.

The flowing stream, in two divided

By diversion man provided,

Rejoins itself with no complaint

At its predestined future date.

And gemstones rich, at home in cavings

Of the earth, fall prey to cravings

Mortals have, and them they use:

Yet shine these still when worn as jewels.

As nature keeps her pride unshaken

Though she's broken, torn or taken:

My guidance shall I take from this

When torn or taken by his kiss.
