Description

“Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners, and necessity has made us allies.” - John F. Kennedy
Alliances have been formed throughout the history of man. When a threat greater than the individual arises, then others must either band together or fall separately. Whether it be a group of nations, a league of planets, or a fellowship of families, we want to hear about a history-making alliance in your world.   Keep in mind that an alliance is an organization of organizations, not an organization of characters.   It's time to band together and take on the Alliance Challenge! We at World Anvil and the Master of Games would like to hear about an alliance that occurred in your world. Be it still existing or a piece of history; be it the size of a galaxy or the size of a town. For those who are Master and above, this challenge is a great chance to use those new organization webs!   It is not required to flesh out the individual organizations within the alliance article, nor is it required to use the new organization webs in order to win.

The Brief

World Anvil and the Master of Games want to read about an alliance of your world, its mission and dynamics.   First step is to create your alliance organization article in World Anvil! Tell us all about who made up the Alliance, what it stood for, and its history. This is a great chance to stub out or reference the existing members of your alliance. Once you've done that, using the new organization relationship fields to create an organization web in your Alliance article!   The alliance can be of any scale as long as its members are organizations as well. It could be an alliance against a natural threat, or it could be a military pact. It could be a pair of nations who set aside their differences for mutual growth. It could be a friendly group of families who work together to ensure each others wellbeing. It could be merchant companies, banding together to improve their hold on the economy. They can be long forgotten alliances of the past, or brand new alliances set up to tackle a brand new issue.   Your alliance can be within any setting, be it fantasy, modern, sci-fi, or anywhere in the middle.   Try to add an organization web to your alliance article! Organization articles without a web will not be disqualified from winning.

What to include in your article

An Alliance

The core feature of this article should be the alliance itself, and how it functions as a whole. This alliance should be a coming together of other organizations, be they nations, planets, or smaller entities. Make sure you tell us a bit about the members, and what they banded together to face.

History

History is going to be a big part of this Alliance. How did they come to be? What are the situations that led to its upbringing? How did they fare against their threat? Have they since fallen apart or do they still work together to this day? There is plenty to go into with this!

Members

An alliance is a group of organizations, so make sure to list a few of these members who form the alliance as a whole! They don't have to be full articles, you can just list stubs and expand them later! Making these member articles will also allow you to create an organization web to display on your alliance article.

The Rules

How to Enter

Firstly, all competitors will need a World Anvil account (don’t worry, it’s free!) to get started. Once you’ve logged in and created your first world, you’re ready to enter the competition.   Write your entry using the Organization template on World Anvil.   Once you have finished your entry and are ready to submit it, make sure that your article is not a draft and then click on the button on the right-hand side to submit it to the challenge.

Adjudication Criteria and Process

A shortlist of the top twenty entries (as organized by community likes and ten from each league) will be compiled by the Master of Games. The Judges will choose the winner. The winner will be announced by the World Anvil Team on the following weekly update stream.   Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including originality, presentation, and thoroughness.   Any work you submit, as long as it was owned by you originally, is still owned by you even if you win!

  • You will be able to submit your article only if it is public!

Because community likes are an important part of the competition, competitors may wish to share their entries on social media to garner more interest from the community. Entries which are tagged with #AllianceChallenge and mention @WorldAnvil might get shared by World Anvil social media!

Leagues

There are two leagues that will be independently judged. The Regular and the Premier League. The Premier League consists of all the authors who have previously won a competition.   Winning a competition in the regular league will promote you to the Premier League for future challenges.
